Our Story
Founded in Brooklyn by *Dr. Patricia Stanford and Dr. Oneica Benn*, Heroes for Learning was built on the belief that education is most powerful when it reflects who children are. We saw too many programs focused only on grades, leaving identity, confidence, and cultural pride behind. We created Heroes for Learning to change that.
Our Mission
To combine *academic support with identity development*, creating learning spaces where children thrive both in knowledge and in self-love.
Storytime and Literacy
Engaging story sessions foster a love for reading and help develop language skills.
Our Vision
To nurture a generation of confident, culturally grounded, academically strong young leaders who will positively impact their communities.
Why DEI + Identity Development Matter
At Heroes for Learning, *Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)* are not buzzwords—they are the heart of our work. Children learn best when they feel seen, valued, and celebrated. When students explore literature, writing, and problem-solving through the lens of their own identity, they:
* Develop stronger self-worth.
* Build resilience and confidence.
* See academic achievement as part of their unique story, not separate from it.
We guide children to love who they are, where they come from, and who they are becoming—because learning is about more than test scores. It’s about shaping heroes for today and tomorrow.
